Passé Composé

avoir verbs - Passé Composé

This lesson is for verbs that build the passé composé with avoir. Most French verbs use avoir, and only a short list takes être instead.

Participles

Verb type Participle
-er parler → parlé
-ir finir → fini
-re vendre → vendu

A participle after avoir does not change with the subject: j'ai parlé, nous avons parlé. It agrees with a preceding direct object: les lettres que j'ai écrites.
