Arabic conjugation is built from roots and verb forms. The same root can appear in patterns such as Form I, Form II, and Form III, and each pattern changes the meaning as well as the conjugation.
Arabic also marks person, gender, number, mood, and voice. Present indicative, subjunctive, and jussive forms can look very similar, so practicing them side by side helps learners notice the endings.
Use the indicative present for ongoing actions, habits, and general statements.
Example: كَتَبَ
أنا أكتب
أنتَ تكتب
أنتِ تكتبين
هو يكتب
هي تكتب
نحن نكتب
هم يكتبون
هن يكتبن
Example: دَرَّسَ
أنا أدرّس
أنتَ تدرّس
أنتِ تدرّسين
هو يدرّس
هي تدرّس
نحن ندرّس
هم يدرّسون
هن يدرّسن
Example: شَاهَدَ
أنا أشاهد
أنتَ تشاهد
أنتِ تشاهدين
هو يشاهد
هي تشاهد
نحن نشاهد
هم يشاهدون
هن يشاهدن
Use the past active for completed actions. Past forms attach person, gender, and number endings to the verb.
Example: كَتَبَ
أنا كتبت
أنتَ كتبتَ
أنتِ كتبتِ
هو كتب
هي كتبت
نحن كتبنا
هم كتبوا
هن كتبن
Example: دَرَّسَ
أنا درّست
أنتَ درّستَ
أنتِ درّستِ
هو درّس
هي درّست
نحن درّسنا
هم درّسوا
هن درّسن
Example: شَاهَدَ
أنا شاهدت
أنتَ شاهدتَ
أنتِ شاهدتِ
هو شاهد
هي شاهدت
نحن شاهدنا
هم شاهدوا
هن شاهدن
Use the subjunctive present after particles such as أن. It often shortens or changes the final present-tense ending.
Example: كَتَبَ
أنا أكتب
أنتَ تكتب
أنتِ تكتبي
هو يكتب
هي تكتب
نحن نكتب
هم يكتبوا
هن يكتبن
Example: دَرَّسَ
أنا أدرّس
أنتَ تدرّس
أنتِ تدرّسي
هو يدرّس
هي تدرّس
نحن ندرّس
هم يدرّسوا
هن يدرّسن
Example: شَاهَدَ
أنا أشاهد
أنتَ تشاهد
أنتِ تشاهدي
هو يشاهد
هي تشاهد
نحن نشاهد
هم يشاهدوا
هن يشاهدن
Use the jussive present after particles such as لم and in some command-like constructions.
Example: كَتَبَ
أنا أكتب
أنتَ تكتب
أنتِ تكتبي
هو يكتب
هي تكتب
نحن نكتب
هم يكتبوا
هن يكتبن
Example: دَرَّسَ
أنا أدرّس
أنتَ تدرّس
أنتِ تدرّسي
هو يدرّس
هي تدرّس
نحن ندرّس
هم يدرّسوا
هن يدرّسن
Example: شَاهَدَ
أنا أشاهد
أنتَ تشاهد
أنتِ تشاهدي
هو يشاهد
هي تشاهد
نحن نشاهد
هم يشاهدوا
هن يشاهدن
Use the imperative for direct commands. Arabic imperative forms are mainly second-person forms.
Example: كَتَبَ
أنتَ اكتب
أنتِ اكتبي
أنتم اكتبوا
أنتن اكتبن
Example: دَرَّسَ
أنتَ درّس
أنتِ درّسي
أنتم درّسوا
أنتن درّسن
Example: شَاهَدَ
أنتَ شاهد
أنتِ شاهدي
أنتم شاهدوا
أنتن شاهدن
